Cooks River Sustainability Centre & Riverside Parklands is the working title for a proposed environmental nature park and education centre on the Cooks River in Marrickville. The park would provide a community hub with extensive opportunities for passive recreation and connected transport, including safe access along the River. It would be a haven for local fauna and flora.
The Centre will showcase solar, rainwater and water sensitive urban design and native plantings that promote biodiversity. Visitors will come to the Centre and Parklands to enjoy the natural environment and learn about sustainability, the Cooks River and its Indigenous, European and natural history.
The Centre will feature a classroom environment for teaching and a social enterprise sustainability café. The Sustainability Centre and parklands will give Inner West residents greater access to the parklands and foreshores along the Cooks River between Illawarra Road and Wardell Road Marrickville.
The Sustainability Centre will support, educate and empower us take better care of ourselves, eachother and the local environment in the face of climate change and the pressures of increasing urban density.
